Utica Comets ink defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon to a contract

The twenty-eight-year-old defenseman was recently in the New Jersey Devils training camp.

The Utica Comets have bolstered their defense corps with the announcement they have signed defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon. Terms have not been disclosed.

Four more players assigned to the Utica Comets including two first round picks

Wotherspoon was a second round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He played parts of four seasons playing for the Flames, but spent most of his time with the organization playing for their various AHL affiliates. He played last season for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms along side former Utica Comets Captain Cal O’Reilly.

Wotherspoon brings an element of size to the Comets blue line, standing six feet, two inches and weighing 207 pounds. A left hand shot, he will also bring experience and leadership for the younger players n the Comets lineup.
