The Pioneers traveled to Oswego to face the Lakers on Saturday night.
The Utica College Men’s Ice Hockey team opened their preseason on a positive note on October 16th, defeating the Oswego Lakers by a score of 6-4. The game was an exhibition game, and will not count in the standings.
Leading the Pioneers offense was new captain Dante Zapata, who netted two goals. Also scoring for Utica College were Mattias Dal Monte, Buster Larsson, John Moncovich, and Khristian Acosta – who also had an assist in the game.
The Utica College special teams were dominant in this contest. The power play converted at a fifty percent pace – going 4 for 8, including two goals on a five on three opportunity. The penalty killing unit responded with perfection, shutting down all three of Oswego’s chances with the man advantage.
Senior goaltender Sean Dickson earned the win for the Pioneers but stopping nineteen of twenty-three shots he faced.
The Utica College Pioneers have one more preseason game on their schedule. That game will be on Saturday October 23rd at their home rink, the Adirondack Bank Center. The game starts at 7:00pm, and their opponent will be the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons. The Pioneers regular season begins at home on Saturday, October 30th against Adrian College. Utica College and Oswego will meet again in the regular season at the Adirondack Bank Center on Sunday, January 9th.
