Utica College Pioneers ranked third in new national poll

The Utica College Pioneers Mens Hockey team is a top three team once again.

The wait is finally over.

Until recently, the last USCHO national Division III poll was on March 23rd, 2020. In that poll, the Utica College Pioneers were ranked third in the nation. They trailed number two Geneseo and number one ranked Norwich.

The USCHO announced its brand new poll this Monday, after a year and a half without a new one. Although the poll is new, the top three teams remained the same, with the Pioneers finding themselves still ranked third. There is, however, a new number four in poll. That team is the Adrian College Bulldogs, who just split a hard fought two game series with Utica College over the weekend. Both games were won by only one goal each.

The Pioneers Head Coach is Gary Heenan, and they belong the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC). Utica College is the only UCHC school in the top fifteen of the poll, but two other UCHC members did receive votes. The Wilkes Colonels garnered twenty-one votes, while the Stevenson Mustangs received nine votes.

The Utica College Pioneers play two home games this weekend. On Friday, they welcome the Arcadia Knights to the Adirondack Bank Center to open up their UCHC schedule. On Saturday, they will play an afternoon game against the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen. For more information on Utica College athletics, visit https://ucpioneers.com.
