Utica Comets vs Toronto Marlies preview

The Comets and Marlies meet at the Adirondack Bank Center on Saturday night.

The Utica Comets and Toronto Marlies meet on Saturday night for the first of four regular season meetings between the AHL North Division rivals. The Comets enter the game in first place in the division with a 5-0-0-0 record, while the Marlies are currently in third with a record of 5-3-0-0.

The Comets are led on offense by Chase DeLeo, who in five games played this season has one goal and seven assists for a total of eight points. Alexander Holtz was the leading goal scorer on the team with five, but he has been recalled by the New Jersey Devils. Taking his place in the team goal scoring lead are Tyce Thompson and Aarne Talvitie – who have netted three each.

A huge part of the Utica Comets undefeated start has been the exceptional goaltending they have been getting from Nico Daws and Akira Schmid. In three games played this season, Daws has a record of 3-0 with a 2.34 GAA and a .932 save percentage. Schmid has started the other two games for the Comets, and is undefeated as well, posting a 2-0 record. He has a sparkling 0.97 GAA to go with a save percentage of .966.

Pacing the Marlies on offense is Kirill Semyonov, who like DeLeo, has one goal and seven assists. Josh Ho-Sang leads Toronto in goals scored with six.

Guarding the Marlies net are Erik Kallgren and Joseph Wall. In six games played, Kallgren has a record of 3-2 to go with a 2.82 GAA and a .910 save percentage. In his three games played, Wall has a record of 2-1 with a 3.38 GAA and .895 save percentage.

Entering tonight’s game, the Comets are operating at a 30% efficiency rate and at 90.9% on the penalty kill. The Marlies have converted 14.8% of their power play chances, and have killed 85.7% of the penalties they have taken.
