Utica College Pioneers remain at number three in new poll

After winning both of their games in blowout fashion this past weekend, the Utica College Pioneers remain in the top three.

The new USCHO Men’s Division III poll was released on Monday, and the voters continue to be impressed with the Utica College Mens Ice Hockey team. After defeating Arcadia 12-1 on Friday night, and Lebanon Valley 9-0 on Saturday afternoon, the Pioneers improved their overall record to 3-1 to go with a UCHC record of 2-0. The win over Arcadia was the 300th for Pioneers Head Coach Gary Heenan and the Utica College program overall – as he is the only bench boss it has ever had.

They have switched places with Norwich, who was in the number one slot last week. Rounding out the top five in the poll are Hobart at number four, and Adrian at number five – whom the Pioneers split a two game series with last weekend at the Adirondack Bank Center. Adrian also received one first place vote in the poll.

Utica College and Wilkes are the only two UCHC teams in that are ranked in this week’s poll. Wilkes is a new entrant at number fourteen, as they were not ranked last week. Although they did not make the top fifteen, UCHC member Stevenson did garner twenty-eight votes in the poll.

The Pioneers will play their first road games of the season this weekend. They travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to play Chatham University on Friday night. The road trip continues to Maryland when they take on Stevenson on Saturday afternoon. Both games are UCHC games for Utica College.
