Calder Farmstead AHL Podcast co-host guest on latest Marty’s Illegal Stick

The crew talk about the Utica Comets, the AHL North Division, and the rest of the American Hockey League.

Sean O’Brien knows AHL hockey and analytics.

The co-host of the popular Calder Farmstead: an AHL Podcast (which is available on YouTube and all major podcast platforms) is currently the only person covering analytics for the entire American Hockey League. As one can imagine, it is a daunting task, but one that Sean does very well nonetheless – you can check it out here: http://bit.ly/datadumpandchase. His AHL analytical work is just one of the topics discussed during his interview on the latest episode of Marty’s Illegal Stick Hockey Podcast.

With his extensive coverage and knowledge of every team in the AHL, O’Brien is able to offer insight that not many others can. In this episode, there is an in-depth discussion about the Utica Comets covering such topics as:

  • The impact of Comets coach Kevin Dineen.
  • Expectations Sean had for the Comets coming into the season.
  • The thirteen game win streak (this episode was recorded the night before it was broken).
  • Strengths/key players for the Comets.
  • Weaknesses of the team.
  • How the Comets project for the rest of the season.

After discussing the Utica Comets, O’Brien analyzes the AHL North Division. He gives his thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of each team in the division, and which ones will challenge for the top spots. Sean closes the segment with some insight into the powerhouse teams in the AHL Western Conference and his prediction of who will be the team to beat from the west.

Utica Comets fall to the Rochester Americans

In the next segment, Scott and Jeremy give their thoughts on the huge Division III college hockey tournament being hosted by the Utica College Pioneers on November 26th and 27th. The discussion then shifts to the new third uniforms for the NJ Devils and LA Kings, the struggles of the NY Islanders, and the early success of the NY Rangers.

Due to some major health challenges for a member of the Marty’s Illegal Stick Hockey Podcast family, the format of the show will be slightly changed going forward. The slick production work including the music, commercials, and multiple camera angles will be on hiatus until host Scott Kinville can figure out how to incorporate those in. There will still be new episodes weekly that feature interesting guests and great discussion. The show can now be found not only on the Marty’s website but also by subscribing to Marty’s Illegal Stick Hockey Podcast YouTube channel or under the same name on all major podcast platforms. The Zamboni Time Machine will also be temporarily taken off of the main show, but will instead be its own separate podcast that can be found on Marty’s Illegal Stick Hockey Podcast major podcast platforms and also at https://martysillegalstick.com. The website will also feature Zamboni Time Machine flashback articles as well.
