Utica College Pioneers remain at number three in the latest national poll

Utica College maintains their spot after a pair of wins this weekend.

It was quite an eventful weekend for the Utica College Pioneers at the Adirondack Bank Center.

On Friday night they took down the then eleventh ranked Wilkes Colonels in a hard fought 3-2 win in which the Pioneers handed the Colonels their first loss of the season. The next night, Utica College demolished King’s College by a score of 8-0 to put a nice cap on the New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss game. With the victories, the Pioneers record now stands at 9-2 which includes a perfect 7-0 in UCHC play.

The brand new USCHO (United States College Hockey Online) Division III men’s hockey poll was released on Monday morning, and the Utica College Pioneers are ranked third – which is where they were in last week’s poll. The top five of this newest poll is as follows:

  • Number one: Geneseo
  • Number two: Adrian
  • Number three: Utica College
  • Number four: Hobart
  • Number five: Augsburg

Of the twenty first-place votes available, Geneseo was awarded fifteen of them while Adrian received the other five. The Pioneers only two losses this season are to Geneseo and Adrian.

Utica College (#3) and Wilkes (#9) are the only two UCHC schools to represent the conference in the top fifteen of this poll. Stevenson nearly joined Utica College and Wilkes by garnering seventeen votes, but barely missed the cut. Despite losing to the Pioneers this weekend, Wilkes actually moved up two spots in the poll from number eleven to number nine.

The Utica College Pioneers now enter their holiday break and will not play for one month. They return on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 to take on the twelfth ranked Curry College Colonels, and the next day they will play local rival the Oswego State Lakers. Both games are non-conference and will take place at the Adirondack Bank Center.
