Utica College Number Three in National Poll, CNY College Hockey Notes

The Utica College Pioneers Mens Hockey Team won both of the their games this weekend. Morrisville, and Colgate were also in action.

The Utica College Pioneers Men’s Hockey Team is on a roll.

The new USCHO Division III national poll was released on Monday, January 17th and the Pioneers remained in the third spot – with good reason. They have a 13-2-0 overall record and a perfect 8-0-0 mark in the UCHC and have not lost since November 27th when they lost to the current number two team in the country the Geneseo Knights. The only other blemish on Utica College’s record is a loss to the now number one ranked Adrian Bulldogs in the second game played of the season. Since their loss against Geneseo, the Pioneers are 6-0, including wins against number nine ranked Wilkes and fifteen ranked Curry.

This past weekend, the Pioneers headed out to the road for a pair of UCHC games. On Friday night they traveled to Aston, Pennsylvania to take on the Neumann Knights. Brett Everson, Justin Allen, John Moncovich, Buster Larsson, Jayson Dobay, and Jamie Bucell each had a big night in the Pioneers 11-3 victory. Everson had a hat trick and added an assist, Moncovich and Allen each had a goal and two assists, while Dobay and Bucell had three assists each.


On Saturday night they arrived n Purchase, NY for a game against the Manhattanville Valiants. Manhattanville gave the Pioneers a battle, but ultimately Utica College pulled out a 3-2 victory with Sean Dickson and Bryan Landsberger splitting the goaltending duties in this game. Dickson made five saves and Landsberger made nine.

The Pioneers had back out to the road this Friday and Saturday nights for games against Lebanon Valley and Arcadia. Both are UCHC games.

Atlantic Hockey Association Championship coming to Utica

Hamilton College

The Hamilton College Continentals were supposed to have games this past Friday and Saturday nights against Tufts and Connecticut College respectively but both games were postponed. The Continentals will play four games this week as the Connecticut College home game has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 18th. On Thursday they will play Bowdoin at home, travel to Amherst for a game on Friday, then return home on Saturday to play Buffalo State. All of these matchups except for Buffalo State are NESCAC games.


The Morrisville Mustangs played three games last week. On Tuesday night they dropped a 4-1 decision to Albertus Magnus at Ralph Walker Rink in New Haven Connecticut. The following night the Mustangs rebounded with a 1-0 shutout of Division II Post University Eagles in Waterbury, Connecticut. Mustangs Freshman goaltender Ryan Creenan picked the fifty-two save shutout in his first game played of the season. On Friday night they returned home and defeated Arcadia University by a score of 5-2 behind a forty save effort by Creenan. Trevor Neumann led the Mustangs on offense in this game with one goal and one assist. Morrisville plays again this Wednesday night at home against SUNY Brockport and Friday night at the number two ranked Geneseo Knights. Both games are SUNYAC games.


The Colgate Raiders were supposed to play two games this past weekend but their game on Friday night at Brown University was postponed. They stayed in New England however to play ECAC rival Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut on Sunday. That game ended up a 2-2 tie with the home team winning the shootout. The Raiders return home to the Class of 1965 Arena for games this Friday and Saturday nights against number one ranked Quinnipiac on Friday night and then on Saturday night against Princeton. Both games are ECAC games.
