A Look at the AHL Pacific Division

With less than a month to go in the regular season, how does the AHL Pacific Division stack up?

The AHL Pacific Division is made up of nine teams and is one of the four divisions that comprise the American Hockey League. This season, each team plays sixty-eight games and the top seven teams in the division will qualify for the postseason based on points percentage – with the first-place team receiving a first-round bye. With that said, let’s take a look at the teams that make up the Pacific Division.

*To be on the team leader’s lists for scoring and goaltending, a play must be on the AHL roster as of this writing (April 5th, 2022).

Gambardella to join the Utica Comets

The New Jersey Devils assigned the forward to their AHL affiliate on Wednesday.

According to Catherine Bogart of http://NewJerseyDevils.com, forward Joseph Gambardella was not claimed on the waiver wire and will join the Utica Comets.

The twenty-seven-year-old Gambardella is a native of Staten Island, NY, stands five feet, ten inches tall, and weighs 196 pounds. He played his college hockey at the University of UMass-Lowell, then joined the Edmonton Oilers organization in 2017 as an undrafted free agent – where he has played until this season. Last season, Gambardella played twenty-seven games for the Oilers AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, where he tallied six goals and seven assists for thirteen points.

Utica Comets training camp has opened

Joseph Gambardella’s best professional season came in 2018-19 while playing for the Condors. In that season he played fifty games putting up twenty-nine goals and nineteen assists for forty-eight points to go along with nineteen PIM. The rest of the AHL took notice, as Gambardella was named to the Pacific Division roster at the 2019 AHL All Star Classic. He was a force in the playoffs for Bakersfield that season as well, where in ten games he scored six goals and four assists for a point-per-game pace. His stellar play in the AHL in 2018-19 also earned Gambardella a fifteen game call up to the NHL with the Oilers.
