The Mohawk Valley Hockey Club is central New York’s only organized dekhockey club. Dekhockey is also known as ball hockey. Dekhockey has the same basic rules as ice hockey, except dekhockey is played on dry surface in sneakers – no skating is involved. Another difference between the two forms of hockey is that Dek uses a ball, whereas ice hockey uses a puck.

The Mohawk Valley Hockey Club has both adult and youth hockey programs. It currently operates both programs out of the Youth and Family Center in Mohawk (the former YMCA of the Mohawk Valley). The MVHC is in the planning stage of building its very own dekhockey rink, which would also be located in Mohawk. The rink would be a first of its kind in the central New York region, and the club is hoping that it would be the first several to be built in the area.
